– meet Joe Ulysses

Joe began his recruitment career with a large firm based in Portsmouth, specialising in filling telecoms roles. After looking for a role a little closer to home in Basingstoke, Joe started at Vincent Gurney, attracted by the support, agility and personal touch of a smaller company.

Joe’s story

“I started my career as a candidate advisor in financial services. That’s when I made the leap into recruitment, which I really enjoyed. I started as an associate consultant and was promoted after 10 months. I focused on filling telecoms roles, so understood the benefit of niche recruitment and how it better serves both candidates and companies. I carried this experience across to Vincent Gurney, which helped as I learned the ropes in mechanical and electrical recruitment.”

“I like the smaller, close-knit environment of Vincent Gurney because you’re really treated like part of the team. And there is always someone across the desk to ask for help when you need it. Tom and Johnie have been hugely supportive since I started and they make you feel valued and heard, especially with our monthly check-ins. I also love the team culture. We know what we’re working towards and keep each other on track and have excellent incentives like Lunch Club and team trips when we hit our targets.”
